Frequently Asked Questions
Comprehensive, preventive care for the whole family — delivered with warmth and clinical excellence.
Do you accept new patients?
Absolutely — new patients are always welcome at Alkassab Dental.
How often should I come in for a check-up?
For most patients we recommend a check-up and professional clean every six months. If you have specific concerns or a higher risk of decay or gum disease, we may suggest more frequent visits.
Do you see children and nervous patients?
We love treating young patients and have years of experience with anxious adults too. Our priority is always your comfort. We offer happy gas (nitrous oxide) if needed, and are happy to take things at your own pace.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Just bring a valid ID and your health fund card if you have one. If you have any recent X-rays from another practice, feel free to bring those too. This will help us get a full picture of your dental history.
Is teeth whitening safe?
Yes. Our professional whitening treatments are carefully formulated and supervised which makes them safer and more effective than over-the-counter products. We check your teeth and gums first to make sure whitening is right for you.
How long do clear aligners take?
Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of your case. Most patients complete treatment in 18-24 months.
Are dental implants painful?
The procedure itself is carried out under local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel pain during treatment. Mild soreness for a few days afterwards is normal and easily managed with over-the-counter pain relief. Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the experience is.
How do I care for veneers?
Veneers are cared for just like natural teeth: regular brushing, flossing, and six-monthly check-ups. We recommend avoiding very hard or sticky foods and wearing a night guard if you grind your teeth, to protect your investment.
Do you accept all health funds?
Yes — we accept all major Australian health funds and have HICAPS on-site for instant claiming. You’ll know your out-of-pocket cost before any treatment begins, with no surprises.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. We offer interest-free payment plans through our financing partners, making larger treatments more manageable. Ask our front desk team and they’ll walk you through the options at no obligation. Card transaction fee may apply.
Is the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) accepted?
Yes. We’re a registered Medicare provider and accept the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, which covers up to $1,158 in basic dental services for eligible children aged 2–17. Our team can check your child’s eligibility at reception.
How quickly can I get an emergency appointment?
We keep same-day slots available for dental emergencies. Call us first thing in the morning and in most cases we’ll see you that day. Out of hours, our voicemail will direct you to after-hours care options.
What should I do if I knock out a tooth?
Act fast as time is critical. Pick the tooth up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with milk or saline, and place it back in the socket if possible. If not, keep it in milk. Call us immediately — reimplantation is most successful within 30 minutes.
My filling has fallen out — what should I do?
Call us to arrange an appointment as soon as possible. In the meantime, avoid chewing on that side, keep the area clean, and you can use temporary dental cement from a pharmacy to protect the tooth until we see you.
